Leaving off something for the sake of Allaah – Sheikh Saalih as-Suhaymee

In the name of Allaah, The Ever Capable, and may peace and blessings be upon His last and final Messenger, his family and companions, as for what follows:

Question: May Allah give you good, the questioner asks: What is the meaning of: “Whoever leaves off something for Allaah’s sake, Allaah will compensate him with better than it?”

Answer: This hadeeth, amongst those (Scholars) who grade its chain of narration good, means that if you were to abandon some of your rights, Allaah will compensate you with better. For example, if there was an argument or disagreement between you and your brother, or you and your wife, or you and some people for instance, and you forfeited something from your haqq (right) seeking the Face of Allaah, far is He above any imperfections, Most High, then you will be compensated with better by the permission of Allaah ‘azza wa jall.

It is also applicable, inshaa Allah, to one who used to indulge in sins and the like, however he turned away from them and directed himself towards Allaah and upon His obedience, then Allah, blessed be He, Most High, will soon bring about that which is better for this person.
