“And what is the Dunyah except play and amusement”

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficient, Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, companions and all those who follow them in goodness until the day of Return. As for what follows;

Allaah, The Most High, says what is translated to mean:

And the life of this world is nothing but play and amusement. But far better is the house in the Hereafter for those who are Al-Muttaqoon (the Pious). Will you not then understand?”[6:32]

The great interpreter of the Quraan, Sheikh ‘Abdur Rahman ibn Naasir as-Si’dee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, mentions in his explanation of this verse:

This is the reality of the worldly-life and the hereafter. As for the worldly-life: It is nothing more than play and amusement. Playing around with the bodies and amusement of the hearts. They, i.e. the hearts, are infatuated by it, the souls are passionately in love with it and all the concerns and worries are connected to it. One being busied with it resembles the playing of a young child.

As for the hereafter: Then it is ((better for those who possess taqwah)) in its essence and description, its longevity and eternal existence, therein is all that which the souls yearn for and what delights the eye from pleasures of the hearts and souls, abundant joys and total paradise.

However it is not for everyone. It is only for the Muttaqoon, those who carry out the commandments of Allaah and forsake His prohibitions and reprimandings.

((Will you not then understand?)) Meaning: Will you not ponder and contemplate over which of the two abodes are more deserving of being sought after?!”
