Do not weaken O’ Believers

In the name of Allaah, The All-Mighty, All-Wise. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions. As for what follows;

Sheikh ‘Abdul Muhsin al-Qaasim, may Allaah preserve him, -who is one of the four Imaams of the Prophets Mosque- states in his small treatise ‘Steps towards Happiness’ [pg:169-170]:

“The established way of Allaah has preceded that those who disobey Allaah out number those who are obedient to Him, the Most Merciful. The Most High says:

“And truly, most of men are Faasiqoon (rebellious and disobedient to Allaah).”[5:49]

And He says:

“And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allaah’s Path.”[6:116]

And the Mighty and Majestic says:

“But few of My slaves are grateful.”[34:13]

Therefore if you see that the mass majority are (being) disobedient to Allaah, this shouldnt be a diversion to you from holding fast to the religion of Allaah. Focus on the truth and not on the numbers of individuals. Allaah describes Ibraaheem, upon him be peace, as being a nation with the fact that he was alone.

The Most High says: “Verily, Ibraaheem was an Ummah (a leader having all the good righteous qualities), or a nation, obedient to Allaah, Hanifa (i.e. to worship none but Allaah), and he was not one of those who were Al-Mushrikun (polytheists, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah, and those who joined partners with Allaah).”[16:120]

Ibn Mas’ood, may Allaah be pleased with him, said: “You are considered a nation even if you are by yourself, i.e. if you are upon the truth.”

So being exposed to a lot of deviance and corruption should cause you to cling to your religion (tightly) and not weaken therein. Because that goads you to appreciate the blessings of Allaah upon you in that He chose guidance for you from amongst His creation and led many others astray.

And this is from that which increases you in guidance and calling to it. Fudayl ibn ‘Iyyaad, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

“Do not be decieved by falsehood due to the amount of those destroyed. Nor feel alienated upon the truth due to the small amount of its followers.”

So if you traverse the path of truth, know that the (whole) creation would love to be upon the true path just like you. However guidance isn’t aqquired by mere hopes and wishes. So praise Allaah (much) for bestowing upon you guidance and uprightness.”
