Obedience and Faith brings about Safety and Security

In the name of Allaah, the Giver of Security, Watcher over His creatures. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions. As for what follows;

Question: What is the connection between imaan (faith) in Allaah and safety in this life and the next? And how can we increase in those means that will preserve (one’s) faith and safety?

Sheikh Saalih al-Luhaydaan[1], may Allah preserve him, says: “It comes in the prophetic narration: “Faith is the manacle of devastation.” Meaning that faith protects a person from being oppressed or harmed by someone without right. The fruits of faith are only observed by one having watchfulness of Allaah, Mighty and Majestic, fulfilling the obligations of Islaam and performing the superagotory actions for Allaah. So that Allaah can protect the slave completey and thoroughly. It has come in the prophetic narration that Allaah, the Most High, says:

“Whoever shows enmity to a Walee, i.e. beloved, close one, of Mine, then I have declared war against him. My servant does not draw nearer to Me with anything more beloved to Me than the religious duties I have obligated upon him; and My servant continues to draw near to me with extra, voluntary deeds until I love him; and when I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks… [Bukhaari]

Thus the fruits and strengthening of faith comes by performing the acts of obedience with hope and fear. Hoping for its reward from Allaah and fearing being disgraced by them. And a person must take account of himself when he is alone remembering that Allaah is examining him.

If he’s in a safe country he ponders over the conditions of those who are in a country where they are covered in fear and strife. This is the recompense. How many years have passed where people are being killed for no reason whatsoever from women and children by the hands of who? By the hands of people from that very country. Their dysfunctions are numerous.

However Allaah does not wrong the people but rather it is the people who wrong themselves. If they were to rectify themselves and become upright upon the obedience of Allaah and worship Him sincerely, the affairs would become rectified.

Allaah says:

“And if they would have believed in Allaah and went on the Right Way, i.e. Islaam, We should surely have bestowed upon them water (rain) in abundance.”[72:16]

From the most important affairs of increasing one’s faith is that a person keeps up with the rememberances of the day and night. He asks Allaah to preserve him from in front of him and from behind. To aid him upon holding fast to His religion. He must also take great concern in the wellfare of his children.  Where are they? Where are they going? Who are they accompaniying? Because the Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The example of the good companion and bad companion is like that of the seller of perfume and the iron smith.”

It is befitting that a person has a nightly portion that he stands confiding in his Lord even if it isn’t lengthly because the most beloved actions to Allaah are those that are consistent.[Muslim]

Lastly he shouldn’t forget about supplication (to Allaah). Asking Him to make him firm, keep evil and indecencies away from him, to assist him upon that which He, i.e. Allaah, loves from all good and the man should instill these (matters) and acts in his family.

It is obligatory for the people to cooperate upon the good. The neighbors in that which is between them, students in their schools, co-workers in their work places; they should reflect upon the khayr (good) and what the other countries are living in from strife and warfare. We hear that which is happening in Palestine from the destruction of houses and killing those who are in them and likewise in Iraq and we should detest this. But if it were to take place in our country, i.e. Saudi Arabia, it would be worst and more devestating to the hearts. Therefore it is upon the people to be diligent in abolishing all of the mistakes (that lead to such).”
