Those who are in the beginning of their seeking knowledge …

In the name of Allah (The One). I send the peace and blessings upon his messenger (Al-Mustafa), upon his family, companions, and those who follow him in righteousness until The Day of Judgement (Yowm Al-Qiyaamah). To proceed:

Questioner: There are a group of questions that relate to people and organizations; they would like some from guidance for the small students of knowledge.

Shaykh Saalih Al-Fowzaan answered: Those who are in the beginning of their seeking knowledge and start off with talking about the affairs of people, “does so-and-so have this or that,” this is Fitnah (disorder). Speaking about people — about their errors and mistakes —, hinders his seeking of knowledge and could possibly stop him from seeking knowledge, especially for the beginner. So, he dislikes this one and that one, amusing himself with other than seeking knowledge and this is Fitnah. It is obligatory to leave this off! It is obligatory upon the youth to seek knowledge and to not listen to what people say about this one and that one. Listening to what people say is the first thing that will cause one to dislike and abstain from seeking knowledge.

Secondly, he will not be rewarded if he busies himself with the mistakes of this one and that one instead of seeking knowledge, which is what he will be rewarded for. So while he has good health, he should pay attention to seeking knowledge and not listen to these rumors and statements.

This was taken from a piece of an article on The Shaykh’s website: http://www.alfawzan.af.org.sa/node/2032

And the peace and blessings are upon our prophet Muhammad, upon his family and companions.
