Safeguarding Ourselves from the Trials of the Dajjaal

In the name of Allaah, the Most Beneficient, Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions. As for what follows;

“O slaves of Allaah! We have been commanded to seek refuge with Allaah from the trials and tribulations of the Dajjaal (the Anti-Christ) at the end of every obligatory prayer and this comprises of two things:

Firstly: The great trial of the Dajjaal.

Secondly: The nearness of his arrival.

It comes in the authentic collection of Bukhaari and Muslim on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him, said: “When one of you makes the tashahhud, let him seek refuge with Allaah from four affairs, he should say: “O Allaah I seek refuge with you from the punishment of the Hell-fire, the punishment of the grave, the trials of life and death and the evil tribualtion of the Dajjaal.”

The Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him, has clarified the matters whereby a person will be protected from the tribualtions of the Dajjaal by the permission of Allaah.

From them:

1: Memorizing the first ten verses from Surah al-Kahf. It comes in the authentic collection of Muslim on the authority of Abu ad-Dardaa’, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever memorizes the first ten verses from Surah al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjaal.” Meaning his tribulation.

2: Staying far as possible away from him if you here of his appearance. It has been collected in Jaami’ at-Tirmidhi on the authority of ‘Imraan ibn al-Husayn, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever hears about the Dajjaal’s appearance then keep away from him. For I swear by Allaah, verily a man will encounter him thinking that he is a true believer and be mislead into following him from that which he will display of great doubts.

3: Living in Makkah or al-Medinah. For indeed they are preserved and protected and he is incapable of entering into them.

Likewise reading and studying the prophetic traditions concerning him, i.e. Dajjaal, amongst the muslim men, women and children are from that which will assist one in knowing about him and being protected from his trials. For this reason, the Rightly Guided Predecessors, may Allaah be pleased with them, would recommend reading abundantly about the narrations concerning him just as the Messenger, may peace and blessings be upon him, would do by mentioning him abundantly to his companions. It has been mentioned in some narrations that: “The Dajjaal will not appear until the people become forgetful about him and until the Imaams of the masaajid forsake mentioning him on the pulpits to the people.”

Therefore spread his affair amongst your families and children just as the Pious Predecessors would do so that you will be safe from his trials by the permission of your Lord, the Most High.”

Al-Khutub Al-Mimbariyyah lish Sheikh ‘Abdus Salaam ibn Burjis, may Allaah have mercy upon him.
