“And never think that Allaah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do…”

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions. As for what follows;

“And never think that Allaah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare in horror. (They will be) hastening forward with necks outstretched, their heads raised up (towards the sky), their gaze returning not towards them and their hearts empty (from thinking because of extreme fear ). “[14:42,43]

Sheikh ‘Abdur Rahman ibn Naasir as-Si’dee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, says in his explanation of this verse:

“This is a severe threat and chastisement towards the oppressors as well as a relief and consolation for the oppressed. Therefore, He gives these individuals respite, provides them with vast provisions and allows them to travel throughout the land safely. However this doesn’t establish that their affair is good or correct. Verily, Allaah delays the oppressors’ punishment in order for him to increase in sin and transgression. So when Allaah (the All-Mighty) siezes him, he won’t let him go. He says:

“Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the (population of) towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful, and severe.”[11:102]

And this oppression includes both, between the individual and Allaah likewise his oppression upon the slaves of Allaah.

“He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare in horror.”[14:42]

Meaning they will not be busied with looking about, left or right, from the horrid spectacle of that which they will see from terrors and dismay.

“Hastening forward…”[14:43]

Responding to the Caller when he calls them to gather before Allaah for judgement. There will be no opposition (in that) nor refuge.

“(They will be) hastening forward with necks outstretched, their heads raised up (towards the sky)…”[14:43]

Their hands will be fastened to their necks causing their heads to raise.

“their gaze returning not towards them and their hearts empty (from thinking because of extreme fear).”[14:43]

Their hearts will be empty. They will have traveled up to their throats and will be filled with grief, sadness, worry and anguish, i.e. the dhaalimoon (wrongdoers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.)”
