The Month of Ramadan and its Virtues: Imaam As-Sa’dee

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muahmmad, his family and companions. As for what follows;

Sheikh ‘Abdur Rahman ibn Naasir as-Sa’dee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, stated in one of his friday sermons:

“All praise is for Allaah due to what He possesses from the most beautiful names and the highest description and what He created and judged with in the beginning and end. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah alone having no partners and to Him ascends the complaints. And I bear witness that Muhammad is his slave and chosen messenger and prophet. Oh Allaah send prayers and peace upon Muahmmad, his family and companions, the noble and virtuous scholars.

As for what follows;

Oh mankind! Fear Allaah the way He should truly be feared and that is by staying away from His displeasures and following His gratification. By appreciation to Him for what He has rendered of favors. Allaah has bestowed this noble month, i.e. Ramadan, upon you and conferred His generous blessings upon you in it.

Allaah revealed in it the Qur’aan that comprises of guidnace, goodness and clarity. In this month the doors of mercy and goodness are opened, the doors of the Hell-fire are closed and the sinners repent from their evil deeds. The caller of good calls out in it: “Oh seeker of good come to the obedience of your Lord. Oh seeker of evil stop and repent from your disobedience.”

Allaah removes people from the Fire every night in this month at the time of breaking the fast.

So present yourselves to the gifts of Al-Muhsin (the Good-doer), Al-Ghaffaar (the Oft-Forgiving). Whoever combines between refraining from the things that nullify the fast and forbidden statements and actions and seeks the reward from the Faatir (Creator) of the heavens and the earth will be forgiven for what has preceded from his sins and his ranks will be elevated.

And whosoever persists upon sins, injustice, trangresses the honor of others and engages in wrong, then Allaah is in no need of him leaving off his food, drink and desires.

For indeed Allaah has presrcibed fasting upon this nation so that they can become from the Muttaqeen (Pious) and in order for them to seek aid in abandoning their desires so as to rectify their religion. Allaah, the Most High, says:

“Oh you who believe! Fasting has been prescribed upon you as it was prescribed on those before that you may become righteous.” [2:183]

He informed that fasting is the greatest means to achieve taqwa of Allaah. In it is a complete reward and the pleasure of Al-Moulaa (the Gaurdian). Because Allaah has specified fasting solely for Himslef from all of the other acts of worship. The Messenger, may Allaah bless him and grant him safety, has said:

“All of the son of Adams deeds are multiplied for him, a good deed by ten times its like up to seven-hundred times. Allaah says: “Except for fasting for it is for Me and I will reward for it. He forsakes his food, drink and desires for Me.”

“And the fasting person has two instances where he is delighted. Delight when he breaks his fast and delight when he meets his Lord.”

“And the smell of the fasting persons breathe is more pleasant to Allaah than the smell of sweet smelling musk.”

Fasting is a junnah meaning protection from sins and the punishment and a means to attain excellence and reward. So how great a deed it is that Ar-Rahman (the Most Gracious) has entrusted His self with its reward and has flooded its people with generosity, bounties and goodness. (He has) prepared for them once they enter Paradise the door of Rayyaan. Entering into eternal bliss through it and perfect living beisde the Generous Lord. He has prepared for them from His generosity that which no eye has ever seen, ear ever heard nor has it ever come across the minds. He has prepared for them all that the souls desire and the eyes find delight in, from every sought after and desired thing. He prepared this as an entertainment and accomadation for the fasting people and honor and blessing for the Pious. As Allaah, the Most High, says concerning these good-doers:

“Eat and drink at ease for that which you have sent on before you in days past!” [69:24]

May Allaah bless me and you.”

  1. Aminah says:

    As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Jazakullaahu khayr for this good work of yours. May Allaah make our intentions purely for His sake.
    Just a spelling correction:

    “And whosoever persists upon sins and injustice and trangresses the honor of others and egages in wrong…” I think the word should be engages***?

  2. Wa ‘alaykis salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu,

    Baarakallaah feeki yaa ukhti! I’m going to correct that now inshaallaah.
