Important Announcement!

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions. As for what follows;

1: Ibn ‘Abbaas, May Allah be pleased with them, reported: The Messenger of Allaah, may peace and blessings be upon him, observed fasting on the day of ‘Aashura and commanded us to fast on this day. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

2: Abu Qatadah, May Allah be pleased with him, reported: The Messenger of Allaah, may peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about observing the fast on the tenth day of Muharram, and he replied, “It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year.” [Muslim].

3: Ibn ‘Abbaas, May Allah be pleased with them, reported: The Messenger of Allaah, may peace and blessings be upon him, said, “If I remain alive till the next year, I shall also observe fast on the ninth of Muharram.” [Muslim].

The virtues and excellence of fasting the 10th day of Muharram are clear from these Prophetic traditions. The Scholars have mentioned with regard to fasting the 10th that either the 9th or 11th should also be fasted along with it to be opposite to the Jews. Friday will be the 9th of Muharram making Saturday the 10th so for those who look forward to fasting, this is a reminder for you. Set your alarms so you can wake up for the suhoor (pre-dawn meal) inshallaah. For those who didn’t know, now you know.

May Allaah grant us the success to fast these days and expiate for us our past sins. Aameen!
